Rick got his first taste of singing on stage at the age of seven, courtesy of his Dad's band,at an open mike in Salisbury,MA. "There was always music playing at our house, especially on Sundays and my Dad always had it cranked up, he developed my love for music." Rick joined his first band, Hurricane Smile, right after high School with homegrown guitar phenom Jason Crowley(myspace.com/Jason Crowley). Rick rejoined Crowley in 1997 to form the blues band The Jason Crowley Band. The band soon morphed into the band, Catfish Lounge, where he met guitarist Mick Bramante and started the funk band Ice Cream. "Mick and I took the blues tunes we were doing in Catfish Lounge and funked em' up. At the first gig, none of us had ever played together except for Mick & I. It was off the cuff, totally spontaneous, and we had a blast!" In an article about the band Ice Cream, Chris Elliott of the local arts & entertainment newspaper, Portfolio, wrote, "He neither beats the audience over the head with his interpretation of the song, nor does he approach it apologetically. Rick Reda is the real deal, and deserves to be singing on the best stages the area has to offer." Ice Cream eventually morphed into the band, Indelible Groove, where Rick met Steve. Rick has recently been playing from Maine to Newport, R.I. with local guitar hero Steve Canty and the Steve Canty Band, Indelible Groove, and the 12 Piece band Arudawakening. The highlight of Rick 's musical career was playing a double bill at one of the mansions in Newport ,R.I. with Arudawakening and headliner Billy Joel, however Rick says fronting for Instant Vintage takes a close second! "I'm so glad Steve asked me to do this project, we are all really passionate about playing this style of music and I think that comes through live. "Rick's vocal hero's include Corey Glover of Living Colour, Doug Pinnick of Kings X, Angelo Moore of Fishbone ("I saw him live and my jaw hit the floor, he blew me away"). Rick would also like to mention Arudawakening band mate Nicole Nelson("she's amazing", nicolenelsonmusic.com). Rick would like to thank everyone for their support and hopes to see you all at the next show!
Dave is a self-taught guitarist with almost 20 years of playing under his belt. Major influences include Bela Fleck, Slash, Eric Krasno, Schmeens, Jimmy Herring, Tony Rice, SRV, Trey, Duane Allman/Dickey Betts, Clapton, and Jimmy Page to name a few. Jamming with various local musicians over the years has been the real learning experience for Dave. Guys like Mike Giordano, Nate Therrien, Shane Staples, Andrew Trombly, the bros, and now the IV crew, have all been key in keeping his music fresh and exciting. The tight Funk/RB style of Instant Vintage is just what Dave’s been looking to play, so watch out!!
Alex is a self-taught drummer who tries to learn from everyone he hears. He loves playing Soul, Funk, Jazz & Hip-Hop. He grew up jamming at parties and in bars with his two brothers calling themselves Uncle Flick. He's had the good fortune to perform with "Mamacita", a funky jazz group out of Boston and also many local musicians which eventually led him to meet Steve. Between a busy job schedule and a family with three kids under three years old, he's very excited to find time to play the music he loves with guys who share his interests and can really throw down. His goal is to get you to bob your heads and stomp your feet while always staying deep in the pocket.
Paul has taught himself to play the bass guitar over the past 15 years. As an avid listener and lover of all types of music, Paul really loves to be able to dig in, and with a solid foundation meet the true challenge of any bass player, to balance the rhythm and harmony, support the pocket, and have fun! Paul has learned his instrument while playing for several years with his 2 brothers in a great party band, Uncle Flick. Paul has also provided the low-end for the New Hampshire based “Top 40” group Hot Damn. Paul would like to mention that listening to Stuart Zender, Paul Jackson, James Jamerson, Anthony Jackson, Victor Wooten, Oteil Burbidge, Ron Carter, Avishai Cohen, Mark Kelley, E.D. Coomes, Fima Ephron, Gary Willis, Flea, and Les Claypool as well as many others, has taught him to love to play the bass!
The typical band nerd, Greg mis-spent his yout’ in the Northwest playing with his older brother in all kinds of groups – jazz, funk, classical and rock – in addition to school bands. Early influences included Coltrane, Cannonball, Phil Woods and Brecker and any group with horns – Chicago, T.O.P., Earth Wind and Fire, BS&T – as well as the big bands – Maynard, Buddy & Basie. He played in Marine bands, on cruise ships and in all types of groups wherever he was living – San Diego, North Carolina, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Texas and Chicago. With Instant Vintage, Greg has found a challenge in trying to add to an already tight group without steppin’ on anyone. These guys are definitely funked up!
